At-Home Teeth Whitening Options: LED Kits, Strips, Pens and Colour Correction Compared

At-home teeth whitening comes in several different formats, and the best starting point is usually to choose the routine that matches your preferred formulation, treatment style and level of convenience.

Luxsmile offers PAP peroxide-free options, peroxide-based options, whitening strips, LED kits, whitening pens, colour correction and weekly brightening care. This guide explains how those formats differ.

PAP or peroxide?

PAP stands for Phthalimidoperoxycaproic Acid and is the whitening ingredient used in Luxsmile's peroxide-free PAP range. Luxsmile also sells peroxide-based products, including the Rapid LED Kit and whitening pens. Our newer Essential and Premium LED ranges are available in both PAP+ and peroxide formulations: Essential provides a straightforward LED option, while Premium features a dual blue/red light device.

Neither format should be treated as automatically right for everyone. Choose according to the formulation you prefer and follow the product-specific directions. For a deeper explanation, read PAP Teeth Whitening vs Peroxide.

LED kit or whitening strips?

An LED kit combines whitening gel with a mouthpiece containing LED lights, while strips hold a whitening formulation directly against the teeth. The choice is mainly about routine and formulation rather than one format automatically being superior.

Read our LED whitening guide and whitening strips guide.

When does a whitening pen make sense?

A whitening pen offers a portable, targeted way to apply gel. It may appeal to customers who do not want to wear strips or use a mouthpiece. See Teeth Whitening Pens: How They Work and How to Use Them.

Where does purple colour correction fit?

Purple colour correction is different from bleaching. It uses pigment to temporarily neutralise the appearance of yellow tones. The purple colour-correction guide explains the difference in detail.

What if I have sensitive teeth?

Some people experience temporary sensitivity or gum irritation with whitening. If sensitivity is already a concern, read Teeth Whitening and Sensitive Teeth before choosing a routine.

Bundles and complete routines

If you prefer a combined routine rather than buying individual products separately, explore Luxsmile whitening bundles. Alongside starter, travel, original PAP and Rapid routines, the range now includes Essential and Premium Smile Bundles in PAP+ and peroxide formulations, plus Premium Complete Routine options.

Safety before whitening

Use every whitening product only as directed. Do not exceed the stated treatment time or frequency, and do not combine whitening treatments in the same session. Ask a dentist before whitening if you have sensitive teeth, gum problems, untreated dental issues, extensive dental work or uncertainty about suitability.

Luxsmile whitening products are intended for adults aged 18 and over and are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Read Product Safety before use.
